Trade relations and regional integration increased rapidly during the last 2 decades both in the EU and in Latin America. At the same time, several initiatives for trade agreements between the EU and Latin America were started, which finally also manifest in strong interests of the two partners in the ongoing WTO negotiations. The aim of this conference is to discuss the economic effects and likely benefits of these trade and integration process, both in a theoretical and empirical perspective.

Conference topics will include inter alia

  • Trade agreements between the EU and Latin America
  • Economic Integration in the EU and in the Southern Cone
  • Positions of Latin America and the EU in the WTO
  • Foreign direct investment in Latin America. Motives and development effects
  • Financial market integration of Latin America
  • Personal and health services and integration
  • Integration of energy markets
  • Trade and information and communication technologies

Especially invited are young researchers.

Leading experts on trade and integration will present their research and discuss the lessons of trade agreements.

Submission procedure

Acceptance or rejection of the proposal will be made based on abstracts in English (2-4 pages), which should include title, keywords, JEL classification, the full name, affiliation, address, e-mail, fax and phone of the author/s. Objectives, methodological approach, expected results and selected references should be stated.

Abstracts and papers submitted will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee.

The final paper in English, should not exceed 25 pages (A4 or letter, Arial 12, spacing 1.5) including text, notes, tables and annexes.

Papers may be published in a conference proceedings upon refereeing by the scientific committee.

Submission of abstracts by May 15, 2006
Deadline for the submission of complete papers: June 15, 2006

Conference Fees

  • Euro 150,- for academics or students,
  • Euro 250,- for others, the fee is waived for presenters.
